Spring is in the air and by that I mean, allergy season. For as long as I can remember I’ve had allergies. Like insanely bad allergies. When my son started showing symptoms a couple of years ago, I was devastated. I know too well what it’s like and that’s not something I ever wanted for him. Fortunately, he’s a real trooper and thanks to a few changes in our lives, we’ve been able to manage his allergy symptoms. Today I’m sharing some of the things I do to help him during allergy season along with what I always have on hand for those more unexpected allergic reactions.
5 Things You Can Do To Help Your Child During Allergy Season
Drink plenty of water
Children that suffer from allergies tend to have an increase in mucus. Drinking lots of clear fluids can help clear out some of this mucus. I always make sure my son has a bottle of water when he goes to school and that he drinks enough when he is at home.
Spring Cleaning?
When you have kids that suffer from allergies caused by dust mites, pet dander, and other allergens, it’s essential to keep your home clear of these allergens. That’s why it’s important to follow through with your spring cleaning tasks.
Tips: When cleaning dust use a damp towel/mop. Using a dry cloth stirs up mite allergens which releases them into the air. And we don’t want that.
Clear the Air
When it comes to household allergens such as dust, mold spores, and pet dander investing in a good quality air purifier is a great idea because it removes contaminants from the air in a room. One of the things that triggers my son’s allergies is dry air. Winter is horrible on his allergies. Not only does dry air bring forth more dust (which then cause sneezing, coughing and watery eyes), but it also gives him horrible nosebleeds. Not too long ago I bought a humidifier for his room, and that seems to help a lot.
Encourage them to be active.
My son doesn’t have any allergies to grass, but my son got an allergic reaction last spring while playing outside. I don’t exactly know what caused it, but it wasn’t pretty! I don’t want to live again this scary experience without being prepared. I know that being active is great for his overall health, so I encourage to go outside and play but this time, I am prepared for the season with Benadryl.
Even if your child doesn’t suffer from allergies caused by allergens, it’s still important to be prepared for the unexpected. With the warmer season on the horizon, it’s a good idea to keep some Benadryl Itch Relief Stick on hand. The non-stinging formula contains a topical antihistamine/analgesic and a skin protectant to provide fast, effective relief of itchiness and pain.
Get over the counter relief.
I’ve been using Benadryl for myself for sometimes now. So when Tristan started showing allergy symptoms, I turned to a brand that I trust. When it comes to allergy relief, Children’s Benadryl products have everything I need. I love that Benadryl comes in a variety of products that will act fast and ensure that my son feels better in no time.
Tristan’s allergies are more seasonal so I ALWAYS keep some Children’s Benadryl Chewable in the house. With his aversion to liquid medicine in general, I was happy when he was able to get relief with Children’s Benadryl great tasting chewable tablets. I recently bought the liquid format, and he’s had no adverse reaction to it.
My son tends to swell up when he gets a mosquito bite, so I plan on getting him some Benadryl Itch Cream. This works wonders for insect bites.

Good tips and they work as well. We take antihistamine yet we still had hayfever symptoms. Then we realise it could be our cat dander as my wife’s symptoms got worse after getting close to our pet. We then bought an air purifier to clear the air, and after three days, our symptoms reduced a lot.

My eldest son is the same. He has seasonal allergies and the biggest trigger is pollen and dust. Dry air is also another one of his triggers. Humidifiers and air purifiers are helpful to a point but it is only with Benadryl that he finds relief.
