I’ll be honest: mornings are usually super chaotic. Missing shoes, kid refusing to eat at a normal pace, the baby waking up early and only wanting mommy, you know the drill. After years of trial and error, I’ve finally found a rhythm that works for our family (most days, anyway lol). Here’s what our mornings look like now:
A Morning Routine That Actually Works for Our Family
My alarm goes off at 6:50 a.m. I try to wake up 10 minutes before the kids so I can have a quiet coffee moment. I try to avoid checking my emails, no doom scrolling, just stillness. Those few minutes make all the difference.
7:00 a.m. I get my daughter up for her shower while I prepare breakfast and pack lunch for the 5-year-old. We rotate between pancakes and waffles. Simple, quick, and filling. Water bottles are prepped the night before (a lifesaver). I’ve learned that even tiny bits of prep make mornings feel calmer.
A few things that really help:
-
Setting out clothes before bed: no arguing about outfits at 7 a.m.
-
Turning on soft music: it sets a peaceful tone instead of the TV and tablet chaos.
-
Keeping breakfast easy: no Pinterest-perfect meals needed.
- Accepting help: On the days the baby wakes up early, I’ll get help from Dad or my big brother.
Of course, some days still go off the rails. Someone can’t find a shoe, or the baby needs an extra cuddle, or I forget to sign agendas. But I’ve learned to give myself grace. Mornings don’t need to be perfect; they just need to move forward.
At the end of the day, it’s not about having a flawless routine. It’s about creating moments that make you feel less rushed and more connected.
If your mornings are a bit wild (and whose aren’t?), start small. Lay out clothes. Prep snacks. Breathe before you wake the kids. Sometimes calm comes in the smallest tweaks.
And if all else fails, remember: coffee first, chaos second.
Cheers to day 3 of NaBloPoMo.
