For the past six years, we’ve had the grandparents over for dinner and ate cake to celebrate my son’s birthday. Lame? The truth is, we are not “party people.” This year, though, we wanted to make his 6th birthday the best EVER so we decided that we would throw him a party. I asked the birthday boy to choose a theme for his party since “themed parties” are IN now. Of course, he went with a Minecraft party. I didn’t complain (too much) though. I knew if it weren’t Minecraft he would have asked for a Halo party. I don’t think any of his little friends even know what Halo is. Plus a Minecraft party sounded easy enough! Or So I thought.
Never really thrown a kid’s birthday party before so I took to the internet (a.k.a Pinterest) for help. After a few minutes (HOURS), I felt…OVERWHELMED! But at the same time, excited!! So many ideas, so little time! I wanted to do it ALL!!! Finally, I picked a few ideas, and the end results were PRETTY awesome (for a first). I was worried that the kids wouldn’t have anything to do, but they all had so much fun, and the adults did too. Plus the food was great.
There was a lot of yummy snacks for the kiddos and the adults. My sister baked the cake, and we even had blue jello for the Minecraft water.
We were able to get most of our supplies at the Dollar store. The rest at Michaels and Target. The Birthday boy had a great time.
I’m glad we decided to have a Minecraft party for this cutie. He was such a good kid.
Check out the pictures of the fun time we had! Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog!

Such a great party!! my girls never got into Minecraft, but I bet they would still like this!!
Wow it looks like an awesome party! Doesn’t look like a first time to me 🙂 you did amazing. Happy Birthday to the birthday boy!
=) I’m really happy on how it all turned out! Thank you for stopping by Ashley!
How fun! I know a lot of kids who would LOVE to have a Minecraft party like this!
Awww, it look like a GREAT party!! My boys are both SO into Minecraft, too, so when I do their joint birthday party this summer, it will probably be the same theme!
I hope your son had a great birthday! Family parties are the best ones. And I love Mario!
What a fun theme! I have little girls and love throwing parties. Your food spread looks fabulous. I love that you have fruit out too. Gotta stay a little healthy at the parties:)
I hate throwing parties too! I think you did a good job for your Minecraft Party though!
This is so neat! You did a great job and it looks like a lot of fun! Wish him a Happy Birthday again!
I call these types of theme parties the “memory makers.” Kids will remember them forever. Great job!
I’ve never actually played Minecraft, but it sounds fun! Especially with the party. Looks like a fun time.
We’re not big into parties usually but now that we have kids I want to make their birthdays special. Thanks for sharing your party so I can get some ideas! I love how cute the food looks!
We just attended a Minecraft party for a 12yo girl! There must have been 30 kids there and her dad even set up a mincraft server in their garage. Guess where the boys were. But it was great! I hope your little guy had a fun time and what great memories!
Both of my boys are into MInecraft right now. I know what you mean about Pinterest – it can be overwhelming. The food at the party looks amazing! Love the jello water and your cake! Great job, I am sure your son was thrilled! Now you have to top that for the next party! 😉
Both my eight year old and fifteen year old sons are addicted to Minecraft! This looks like a great party! Very creative!!
Hi Lady Marielle. What an awesome post. How did you know I was needing this info? I was thinking of making my son a Minecraft party also. Thank you for sharing the creative ideas. What a great mom you are. =)
Well that sure was one cool party!! I have never heard of Minecraft though.. guess I don’t get out much. What a lucky boy your son was.
You did a great job, I bet he was one happy little guy. Happy 6th birthday to him:) Thanks for sharing your story, it looks like you took a lot of time to make it special for him
Well done! I LOVE parties and Theme parties are even better!
Everything looks amazing! You really went all out.
My son loves Minecraft! He would have gone nuts for a party like this.
Oh My gosh what a great party that was. Mindcraft is such a popular game righ tnow.
Awe! Looks like such an awesome party. I wouldn’t have been able to pull that off. I don’t know much about Minecraft to be honest.
Oh my gosh, he’s SO cute. My kids love Minecraft, so I imagine that we’ll be having a Minecraft themed party this year. Love your cake!
I’m not sure what Minecraft it, but it looks like a good time!
What a great kids party and keeping it simple and real!
I have two girls that aren’t into Minecraft, but they sure would have like all the treats at this party.
Well that is a really cute party and the birthday boy seems quite happy. That is the most important thing. Since I don’t have little kids, I am not even sure what Minecraft is. 😉
I have four kids, so party planning happens a lot during the year, but I really enjoy it. I love the Dollar Store for decorations. For my youngest sons 4th Birthday we are doing a Caillou theme. I was able to get a lot of the Caillou themed items online, and then the plain colored items, I plan on purchasing at the Dollar Store.
congrats on your first party! It’s addicting I tell you! haha
and Happy Birthday to your boy 🙂
What a neat looking party – I have to admit I have never played minecraft so I don’t know much about it but from what I do know it looks good. x
wOW GREAT kids party, so cute
I’m not a party person either. I never really had a birthday party as a kid, just dinner with family & then cake 🙂 Kudos to you for pulling it all off 😀
What a wonderful birthday party. I love getting the family together and celebrating my son’s milestones and birthdays.
That looked like it was a great party. There are so many kids that are big Minecraft fans, I know of a couple who have mom’s that will be inspired by this for ideas.
What a great party. My son LOVES Minecraft.
Looks like you pulled it off pretty well. My son loves Minecraft too! Looks like the birthday boy had a blast

My daughter love minecraft! Im going to show her this.
He looks so happy and you guys did a great job. Birthday parties for the little ones can be a lot of work. I went all out for my little one’s 1st birthday. Mostly for me b/c I love entertaining and it had been so long!

AWWW how fun, what an awesome party you had… My kids would have flipped over a Minecraft party, they are all hooked
First time I hear about Minecraft parties, but then I have no small children at home. 🙂 Looks like the birthday boy had fun!
Sounds like a great party idea and the birthday boy had fun! Thank you for sharing this idea. I am sure so many children would love this.
WOW! Sounds like so much fun! I’ve not heard about Minecraft parties! Your pics are great! Everyone was having a fun time. Thanks for sharing.
What a great party idea! I’m so glad you enjoyed it and that it it was such a success!!
I have never heard of minecraft, but it sounds and looks like the party created a great memory to hold onto! Cute little guy!
So fun! I love the pics!!! Themed parties are fun – no matter what the age, but I can relate to the overwhelm when turning to Pinterest for ideas. You do want to do so much cause there are so many great ideas out there. Hehe. Great job!
I used to love to do birthday parties for my children. It was almost more fun planning and preparing than the party itself… at least for me. Those days are in my past now while I see parties planned for our grandchildren by their mothers. What a special time you planned and at 6 years old your son will have fond memories.
OMG I love your little man’s smile! He is SOOOO cute! We did a Minecraft party too for Tre for his 10th birthday (yes, you have MANY more years of Minecraft parties to come lol). I have some photos from his birthday last year and some other Minecraft ideas on Pinterest (http://www.pinterest.com/kimatliah/party-ideas/). I want to do a treasure hunt this summer – hide these stones that look like the gems from the game and some other things for them to find and they have to solve the riddles to find the items that I’ll hide everywhere. I’ll have lots of pictures to share too roflmao!
Love the theme of the party.
Thanks for stopping by Max! =)
What’s really terrific is that you didn’t feel you were being cruel to your child by not spending thousands of dollars for venue, entertainers and zip-lines! It proves kids have good enough imaginations that they can dream it all up themselves. Brava!
I know a couple of kids who would go crazy for a Minecraft party! This looked like such a fun time!
What great pictures and fun. I love the dollar store and it is amazing what you can find there. Thank you for sharing your son’s birthday with us.
