Every November, I tell myself I’ll be ahead of the holiday shopping rush. And every November, I still find myself wandering the aisles humming along to the same Mariah Carey song that has officially taken over every store in Quebec. But honestly, there’s something comforting about it. The lights, the lists, the excitement from the kids. It all makes the season feel real. This year, I’m trying to keep things simple. I want gifts that make sense, stores that make life easier, and options that don’t break the bank. Here’s where I’m shopping and why it works for our family.
Holiday Shopping in Quebec: Where I’m Finding the Best Deals This Season

Thrifting and Finding Hidden Gems
I try to include at least a few secondhand finds every year. Quebec has so many great thrift stores. You can find books, kids’ winter gear, wooden toys, holiday decor, and even gift baskets that you can spruce up. Thrifting is budget friendly and eco friendly, and sometimes the kids appreciate a good vintage treasure more than a brand new item. It’s also a fun way to explore the city and support local charity shops.
Supporting Small Businesses
Whenever possible, I shop from small businesses. I love discovering handmade items, local treats, and indie brands. Small shops put so much care into their products and the experience shows. Whether it’s a Montreal maker on Etsy, a local bakery offering holiday boxes, or a little boutique with curated toys and decor, these purchases always feel more meaningful.
Coco Village: A New Favourite
A new Coco Village store recently opened, and I was so excited to check it out. Their products are always beautiful and playful, and seeing them in person is a true treat. One thing I really loved is that they offer a gift wrap option. When a store makes the wrapping part easy, it instantly wins my holiday heart. Their toys make perfect gifts for little ones, and the shop has such a warm, magical vibe. It’s definitely going on my regular holiday shopping circuit.

Walmart Canada for the Essentials
Walmart Canada is always my starting point. It’s the place where I can grab stocking stuffers, kids’ pajamas, craft supplies, and even wrapping paper in one stop. The deals are usually pretty good, especially for toys. And with four kids to shop for, multitasking is key. I also like that I can sneak in grocery items while I’m there, because nothing says “holiday season” like suddenly realizing you’re out of milk again.
Canadian Tire for Practical Gifts
Canadian Tire becomes my little treasure hunt. Their holiday gift section is always fun to explore, and they usually have really nice deals on small appliances, tools, and cozy home items. If you have someone in your life who loves anything practical, this is the spot to check out. I did a silly reel about my recent trip there, checking the holiday home decor (here).
Winners and HomeSense for Unique Finds
You already know these two are dangerous for the wallet, in the best way. I love going to Winners and HomeSense because the shelves change every day. One visit and you walk out with a kids’ puzzle, scented candles for teacher gifts, a cute mug, and maybe a new throw you absolutely did not plan to buy. These stores are perfect when you want something that feels special without being overly expensive.
Amazon for the Convenience
Some days, getting to the store simply does not happen. For those moments, Amazon saves the day. I use it for harder-to-find items or for things I want delivered fast. It’s especially helpful when one of the kids suddenly decides they want a very specific toy that is nowhere to be found in local stores. I also love using Amazon for last-minute gifts when the holiday chaos kicks in.

Holiday shopping can feel overwhelming, but choosing a mix of practical stores, small businesses, thrifting spots, and convenient online options makes everything easier. At the end of the day, it’s really about finding gifts that the kids will love and keeping the season joyful, rather than stressful. Now I need to win a million dollars so that I can buy everyone’s Christmas wish list lol.
Cheers to day 15 of NaBloPoMo!
